Sunset Makai Hale

We cooked dinner at home every night. The house is so beautiful at night, because it is lit so well. We played games during the day, and hung out by the pool. We went to the closest shopping center and got food to cook, and everyone was so nice and accommodating. Wonderful house. Wonderful location.

Paradise like view

This is our second time renting this wonderful home! When you first arrive you are welcomed with several local favorite snacks from coffee, chocolates, chips to a freshly made pitcher of mai tais! If relaxation is your goal, don't look any farther! The view of the ocean is close and personal from all areas of the house, yard and even from the 45 foot pool! Your host provides a unique architecture that combines comfort, beauty and island tradition! It Truly blends the inside and the outside with amazing use of windows! The house has an amazing kitchen with all the bells and wistles ascwell as an outdoor grilling station! They have thought of everything from pool toys, board games, yard games and much more! The home is located near great attractions like the blow hole, fine dining and poipu beach, as well as shopping and other restarants! The 4 bedrooms all are private and have great ocean views and beautiful updated bathrooms! Book your stay today, you won’t be disappointed!

It was a beautiful location and home. Management was slow to return messages. Only one roll of paper towels for the whole house. The lower bedroom had bugs in the bed and was not useable in our mind even though bedding was changed. The groundskeeper spent essentially the whole day on Saturday cutting grass and weed whacking property which diminished enjoyment of property, especially on our first day wanting to rest and recover from long travel. Couldn’t really enjoy the pool or house with the noise going on for hours! But location, view, etc was unparalleled. We very much enjoyed our stay there, and we were especially glad to have the pool. Felt overpriced especially given the above issues. We throughly enjoyed our time there and would recommend. Above comments are meant to be helpful for you going forward.

We typically leave 1 roll of paper towels on the counters and another under the sink, which is usually enough for a week's stay. We are always happy to deliver more if you request it. While there were some ants in the bed as you noted, we want to emphasize that there were no bedbugs at home. We offered to replace all the bedding and sanitize the room and bed, which you agreed would be satisfactory. We are sorry if the landscaping disrupted your afternoon. One of a Kind

What an incredible property and home! As shared by other reviews, even these beautiful pictures do not do this home justice. The interior of the home is open and has many windows and sliding glass doors which makes it feel like there is almost no transition from inside to out. The views, most especially from the back patio/pool area can’t be beat. There is a small patio right at the water’s edge which is perfect for breakfast every morning. Unbeknownst to us there are many parakeets that stop on the palm trees on the property every evening and take off each morning making for an incredibly unique experience especially for nature and wildlife lovers. The home is conveniently located to so many of the island’s sites and great restaurants. Every day was a dream. Another great aspect of the home were the small pictures and explanatory notes about the history of the home which added such a great touch! We cannot wait to return again!

Perfection in Paradise

Every exquisite detail from art to landscape, this spot can not be outdone. This home is Immaculate, Accommodating and a great location with a private beach where the waves soothe you all day and into the evening. Ideal for sunsets, surfing, spotting sea turtles, along with a beautiful pool for lounging and swimming. Wonderful amenities for cooking or entertaining, with great restaurants close by as well. Golf, hiking, catamaran sight seeing trips, snorkeling, diving, all very close by. A Sound system with piped in music for indoor/outdoor enjoyment was just an added bonus to put the shave ice topping on the trip of a life time!!! This is a very highly recommended place in a very relaxing, decompressing atmosphere.

Loved this beautiful house! Pool was fantastic! Views were beyond incredible. The house is even better than the pictures. There are atriums throughout the house so you feel the outdoors is inside. I was initially worried about no air conditioning in the living areas, but the open air and breeze is better.. I think over 10 sliding glass doors. It felt like a luxurious hotel but you had it all to yourself! Perfect the bedrooms had air conditioning at night. Thoughtful touches like the pitcher of mai tai and gift basket of treats when we arrived were greatly appreciated. Wish I was back there already!

Shangri-la

This place is just stunning -- better in person than the pictures. But it is also completely casual and easy to relax in. There was a place for everything -- the soccer fanatics (it was World Cup time) had a place to watch without disrupting the tropical ambiance and everyone loved eating out by the pool and watching the sunset. Not pictured there is also a large side yard covered in grass. We had games of lawn bowling there. It was just too short.

Parakeets in Paradise

The Sunset Makai Hale is like a dream Hawaiian beach home situated on lush grounds on a rocky outcropping directly on the ocean. People will book a month in advance at the nearby Beach House restaurant just to have the same sunset view that you will have every night here. We had 8 adults and a two-year-old spend 13 nights here and we were all reluctant to leave. The house is as beautiful as you see in the photographs and there were no negative surprises. The kitchen is remarkably well furnished for a rental including a food processor, blender, an air fryer, hand mixer, kitchen gadgets, and multiple sets of glasses, cups, and dishes. We really appreciated the dedicated 'beer fridge', ice drawer, and the two dishwashers. Our grandson enjoyed the small and protected "keiki cove" beach located next door. Flocks of large parakeets roost on this section of shoreline every sunset. We all enjoyed watching the hundreds of bird swooping, squawking, and jockeying for position on palm trees while drinking a cocktail on the deck. The birds, however, will poop on your car overnight. Fortunately, there is garden hose in front for washing it off. One caveat: Kauai is in the tropics so you can expect some 'unwanted visitors' to sneak into the house. Ours included a spider, centipedes, geckos, large cockroaches, and a mouse. It's all part of the price of living surrounded by lush island greenery, so don't get freaked out and just deal with them. We would definitely rent from Parrish again.

Gorgeous place to stay. Whether to primarily stay in or place to hang your hat, this is a perfect location to enjoy the breathtaking views, especially at sunset. The home is very well equipped, beds are comfortable, and if you’re planning to travel with family and/or friends, a lovely setup to encourage positive conversation and bonding. Beautifully designed outdoor seating, and excellent kitchen/dining room. Staff are accessible, knowledgeable, and friendly which made our travel even more effortless. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Gorgeous Hawaiian Home

Our compliments to the team at Parrish Kauai and the owners of this property. Throughout the week you learn the history of the home with articles, photos and small placards. This is an open air Hawaiian home with the ocean breeze throughout. The amenities included a full kitchen with 2 dishwashers, commercial icemaker/drink cooler WiFi, outdoor Coyote grill and a awesome pool There is also Sonos music system throughout the main living area and pool. The resorts have nothing on this ocean front property.

We had the most amazing family vacation in this architectural marvel of a home in picture perfect Poipu. The walls open to the outside allowing light and ocean breezes to travel throughout the home. We spent most of our time swimming and lounging poolside watching surfers and turtles swim past. Not only does this home have every amenity you could think of, but it is ideally located near amazing beaches and restaurants. We honestly didn’t want to leave and will plan our next trip to spend at this property soon.

It was extremely hot during the time of our rental. Lack of air conditioning decreased our enjoyment of the property. If I rented again during a warm-weather period AC would be a priority.

Although we loved our vacation at Sunset Makai Hale, we felt like there were some areas for improvement in the rental. First, the patio furniture was not up to par with a rental of this caliber. The lounge chairs and tables outside were the cheapest quality and had no cushions which made them very uncomfortable to lay on. In addition, we would have preferred the pool to be heated, even though we visited in June the water was quite cold to us. I’m sure you hear this a lot in the summer, but it would have also been nice to have air conditioning in the bedrooms as it got quite hot during the day. Things that we loved about the villa were the architecture and the location.

The House.

This house is phenomenal! Location right on the ocean with pool. House far exceeded our expectations. Everyone we dealt with was fantastic. Small ant problem but I’m guessing that is going to happen with so many open windows. Was not disruptive at all. Just needed to be careful with our food. Parrish offered the nicest houses with great locations.

Jaime Devereux was extremely helpful and responded very promptly to all of my questions. The grounds, architecture and setting for the home are truly amazing! Perhaps the prettiest setting of any place I have ever stayed. That said, I believe the interior is extremely tired and in need of some cosmetic help, such as fresh paint. The bath tub in one bedroom had a big chip in it. The furniture also seems subpar for the cost of the home linens also need to be improved, as some of the blankets had holes. Gas grill would light but not heat up. Two separate guests familiar with this type of gas grill could not get it to heat up above 200 degrees.

Heaven on Earth...with a view!

Best home we have ever rented. The architect of this home was a master, bringing the outdoors in with every room. The sliding doors (which are screened for bug/bird control) create a wonderful breeze . If we were not so busy every day playing on the island we would have spent them on the lanai and in the pool. Tons of great surfing out in front of the house for the more experienced (‘acid drop’ is the area out in front of the home for those who have surfed Kauai before) and the surfers were fun to watch each day for those that don’t “brave the board.” There were also about a dozen sea turtles frequenting the rocks when we were there so had tons of fun naming them and seeing their personalities. Can’t say enough about the house! Also worth mentioned that the company that manages the home (Parrish) had really amazing service. Greeted us at the house with Mai Thais and a gift basket when we arrived and were attentive throughout the stay (including finding an amazing personal chef for a night -- JP). Would stay at another one of their properties as well as I know we woudl be well taken care of Just cant say enough about it. We will be back for sure!

It was a wonderful property for our family vacation.

Christy provided us with a welcome tour of our rental complete with a pitcher of a mai-tais. She helped us with having a king bed converted to twins for our grandchildren. It was her day off and I called her after getting no response to my request from calling the Parrish office. She was great! The property was just what we were looking for.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS!

From the time we drove into the private driveway, we loved it.. We picked up the keys, found the house and all we could do was walk around look in each room and say “WOW”. It’s hard to describe because the pictures online don’t do it justice. For a week it was our own private ocean wonderland. Typically on vacation we spend little time at the place we are staying and just come back to sleep.. This place is so unique and magical, we made a trip to the local Costco, got some wine, steaks, etc. and spent the majority of our time relaxing in the pool and enjoying the sunsets. With several decks, a tremendous outdoor private wrap around pool with amazing night lighting, we couldn’t hardly justify going anywhere else! It exceeded our expectations, each bedroom is unique and has it’s own character. The fabulous Hawaii white sand PoiPu beach is only a short 5 min. away and this place also has it’s own little private beach. Still smiling here and enjoying our memories. Walking distance to an awesome restaurant, surfers were everywhere! Sleeping with the ocean right outside the deck was some of the best sleep we have ever had. You couldn’t be any closer to the ocean unless you put a sleeping bag in the sand! Loved it!

A Perfect Stay in Paradise at the "Sunset House Toward the Sea"!

The name alone is perfect. My brother-in-law kept the location for our Kauai Family Reunion a secret until the last of us had arrived on the island. Once we got to this amazing rental property, we understood why. The view alone is to die for. What an amazing find on the south shore of the Garden Island. The back yard, pool, and patio overlook the Pacific Ocean with nothing more than the palm trees and a hammock ‘obstructing’ the view. The four bedrooms and four baths were perfect for the entire family. The kitchen was huge and well equipped. It’s a bit secluded and nicely hidden away on Lawai Road about a mile from a few traveler shopping and dining sites in one direction and also a mile from the Spouting Horn and Botanic Gardens in the other direction. There are a lot of ceiling to floor windows and doors throughout the house to let in the calm ocean breeze. My wife and I had the easternmost downstairs bedroom, which offered us the wonderful and restful roar of the ocean waves and a cooling crosswind throughout the night. In looking over the older reviews, there were a few comments that this place needed an update. That looks like it’s been done quite nicely really. The only thing not working was a single fan. Yes, there’s no A/C so there are fans throughout the house. You do have to remove your shoes inside the house. It really doesn’t get much better than this. Mahalo!

What a House!! WOW

My extended family and I stayed in this house to celebrate my Husbands 60th Birthday. We had 3 generations staying here, with ages from 11 to 82 years. There was plenty of room/space for all 8 of us without stepping over each other! We absolutely loved this house! The views were to die for! The kitchen well stocked and beautiful! The pool and garden area totally relaxing. You really don’t want to leave once you get here!! House very equipped with everything you need, from flippers, towels and coffee!! My only negative would be that the bathrooms downstairs need updating as they are looking very tired! Location is fantastic. 15 minute walk to local shopping centre. 35 minute drive from the airport. Service from the Parrish Collection outstanding! We will hopefully be back again one day!!

My family of ten, including 5 yr old twins, had a wonderful vacation in this property. Only regret that we were unable to rent for two weeks instead of one week but lucky to get that as I booked late. Everything worked as it should and the weather was great as a much needed escape for six of us who came from wintry Eagle, Idaho. Would love to re-rent againbut must be between Dec 27th to Jan 10th as two of my grandaughters are on winter break from college. Thanks to owners for excellent taste!

Hawaiian Paradise.. Absolutely Breathtaking

My boyfriend’s family has been renting this amazing home for many years. I was so excited to go with them on their family vacation and kept hearing wonderful things about Kauai. I was sent over photos of the rental home and was in awe. This is exactly what my idea of a vacation looks like. Beach, palm trees, water, and a few cocktails. I stepped foot into the driveway and was immediately in love. I opened up the front door and took in the beautiful high ceilings, the smell of the Pacific Ocean, and his cousin making Mai Tais. This home is wonderful. We had all ages from 6 months to 84 in the house. It is good for people with kids, couples vacation, or friends looking to enjoy all that Kauai has to offer. The staff was wonderful and very attentive when we called. Go above and beyond to make you feel like you are home. I was sad to leave after only 6 days because I loved waking up and looking at the palm trees sway in the wind while drinking some coffee to the sound of the ocean waves crashing. I would recommend this to anyone and I can’t wait to go back!

Paradise found.

This beautiful home is truly a unique estate. The location and grounds alone put it in a category by itself. The south Pacific feel with teake wood beams and ceilings are magnificent. The updated kitchen is a chef’s dream and the custom made surf board bar table top is appropriate to the location off “acid drop”. I can’t say enough about the open views and sounds of the ocean break only feet away. I’m already planning my return and have enjoyed this property for 3 previous weeks. It is an experience that is difficult to describe…it must be lived!!

Absolutely breathtaking - a true paradise!

My husband and I had a phenomenal time at Sunset Makai Hale. First of all, the Parrish staff made everything go off without a hitch. Keys and welcome packet were in our rental car and ready to go upon our arrival. When we walked into the house we were blown away by the stunning view of the ocean. The house itself is really a work of art, designed to feel open to the outdoors and beautifully crafted. Everything was spotless and in excellent working condition. There were boogie boards, snorkeling gear, coolers, pool toys, etc. that we could use at any time. The outdoor shower was so convenient, especially after coming back from the beach. Finally, the location was simply ideal. A short walk takes you to Spouting Horn, shopping centers, and several beaches. It is also right next to the Beach House restaurant, where many go to watch the sunset over drinks, but we found that our view was actually better! Couldn’t recommend the house highly enough.

Gorgeous home away from home

Sunset Makai Hale was the perfect place to relax with friends while enjoying the beauties of Kauai. There have been significant remodels and updates to the home that made staying very enjoyable such as: the newly open kitchen and dining area, the beautiful surf board bar table and gave the home a lot of personality, and best of all, the master bathroom shower was incredible with breathtaking views of the ocean. I would definitely recommend everyone to stay at Sunset Makai Hale.

Amazing luxury in paradise

What a fantastic property in an excellent Kauai location! Visited Kauai with my wife and several friends, we had the time of our lives. The property is situated in a beautiful waterfront setting, just minutes away from several fantastic beaches. The house itself has a great “island style”, and the kitchen was renovated (and beautifully so) just prior to our stay. The house was plenty spacious for our large group, and the patio and pool were a great place to spend our days and nights. Would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a luxurious getaway to beautiful Kauai!

Best Vacation Rental House - Absolutely Spectacular

My husband and I stayed at the Sunset Makai Hale House for a week with our friends, and the house was absolutely fabulous! It was spacious and spotlessly clean! Every room has an adjacent bathroom, which is perfect for group of friends or family to travel together. Not to mention, every room has a stunning view of the ocean, which was incredible to wake up to every morning. The recent updates to the kitchen is definitely a true paradise for guests who love to cook -- it is well equipped and functional. We found ourselves spending most of our time cooking a feast, and both indoor and outdoor dining spaces were pleasing and relaxing. The house is very private and in a quiet area, but it is walking distance to the beach, shopping center, and wonderful restaurants. I would not hesitate recommending this beautiful home to anyone!!

Breathtaking beauty and every need met.

The Parish staff was very friendly and helpful (Kristie and Crystal). The home was beautiful and the proximity to the ocean was so incredible. We were very comfortable, had all the conveniences we required, the pool water was clear and warm, the service staff was unobtrusive and friendly, there were attractions and restaurants close enough to walk to…everything was perfect. Exceeded Expectations!

It’s always hard to judge by photos until you actually see the property. If anything, there was extras not mentioned like extra TV’s and and extra fridge. We were extremely pleased with the property, quality of furnishings and expendables provided. Exceptionally pleased with the “tsunami warning” provided by Parrish of the evacuation order. Very comforting knowing even though we were aware at happenings. Thank you!

Perfect Unique House in Kauai

Fantastic luxurious property! Best location on the water. Watched the surfers every morning from the lanai. Terrific pool. House has everything you need and the views from every window are amazing. Great lawns all around the house where we goofed around with our kids. Close to Poipu and within walking distance to great snorkeling beach. We stayed here for a week with our three young children and had a blast. I would highly recommend this property!
