A gorgeous stretch of sand seldom seen by visitors is one called Kahili in Hawaiian or Rock Quarry Beach by others. Located south of Kilauea town and near one of our newest Kauai vacation rentals called Hale Kai Kalani, this is the place to go for an idyllic escape on your Kauai vacation. To ensure its seclusion, the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust recently acquired a 12 acre parcel along side this Kauai beach to protect both public access and habitat for generations to come.
Kauai Flood 2018 Update: The historic rains in April caused serious damage to Rock Quarry Beach. This post reflects what the beach looked like before the flood. It will be updated in the near future.
While the majority of Kauai beaches are open to you, the highway and beaches beyond Hanalei will be closed until further notice. On behalf of our island community, we thank you for your kokua during this time.
From your car it’s an easy walk to the ocean unlike the hike down at nearby Secret Beach or Larsen’s Beach. During summer the surf break is gentle in the center and perfect for beginners. The soft, white sand is fluffy and nice to experience even if you visit on a winter day when the ocean is temperamental. If you are looking for a Kauai snorkeling spot, you’ll have better viewing elsewhere at Tunnels Beach in summer and Lawai Beach at Poipu in winter.

Kauai Beach Tips for Rock Quarry Beach
Scene: Backed by woods, secluded and often quiet with no homes visible from the beach. A river inlet called Kilauea Steam is calm year-round but recommended more for kayaking and fishing. A former rock quarry nearby gave this beach its name.
Facilities: No lifeguard on duty, picnic tables or restrooms.
Caution: Best in summer for water sports. Do not enter the ocean here if the surf is over 3 feet.
Kauai Road Directions to Rock Quarry Beach
Rock Quarry Beach is located on the ocean side of Kilauea Bay. From Highway 56, turn at the sign to Na`Aina Kai Gardens at Wailapa Road. Go .6 miles and turn left on a dirt road that leads down the hill for half a mile. You’ll park at the end when the beach is in view. From your car it is only a short walk to Rock Quarry.
